Junichiro Tanizaki, no livro Em Louvor da Sombra, 1933, relata a construção de sua casa. Ao tentar aliar a tradição nipônica aos avanços tecnológicos e à influência dos hábitos ocidentais na sociedade japonesa, Tanizaki critica a excessiva claridade imposta pela modernidade, revelando a potência que a penumbra, o mistério e a profundidade possuem em sua cultura. Partindo desta ideia, foi colocado o livro de Tanizaki aberto com uma lâmpada incandescente, acesa, muito próxima dele. Com o passar do tempo, o calor da lâmpada vai, lentamente, preenchendo de queimaduras as suas páginas.
Junichiro Tanizaki, in the book In Praise of Shadow, 1933, reports the construction of his house. In attempting to combine the Japanese tradition with technological advances and the influence of Western habits in Japanese society, Tanizaki criticizes the excessive clarity imposed by modernity, revealing the power that the penumbra, the mystery and the depth have in their culture. Starting from this idea, Tanizaki's book was opened with a glowing, burning lamp, very close to it. Over time, the heat of the lamp will slowly filling your pages with burns.
